Poultry Skill-A-Thon

The purpose of this contest is foster the interest in exhibiting and breeding purebred poultry.

2 age groups as defined in the CCJLS catalogue.

Participants will be required to use their own bird and the bird must be entered in the show.

Any participant who is observed by the judge or livestock show official to display un-sportsman like conduct before, during or after the show, could have points deducted from their score or be disqualified.

The score card will be divided into 2 parts- A and B

Part A

Both groups will participate in an interview which will count for 20% of their total score. The interview will cover material they have learned about their particular breed or variety of Bird. Participants will be scored on their professionalism, and speaking abilities. Each participant will be given a maximum of 3 minutes to present their information. No points will be deducted for using less than the 3 minutes. However, time will be called when the 3 minutes has expired.

Both groups will be asked a set of test questions accounting for 20% of their score. The questions will be general knowledge questions taken from the American Standard of Perfection.

Part B

Both groups will present their bird to the judge and will need to be able to answer questions regarding the bird as well as demonstrate proper handling and showing techniques.= 30%

Seniors- A group of 3-5 birds will be displayed. Each participant will be given 2 minutes and 30 seconds to view the birds. The birds cannot be handled or taken from the cage, a judging stick can be used to move the birds in the cages. At the conclusion of the 2 ½ minutes the participant will be ask to identify which bird is the best representative of its breed and tell why.= 30%

Juniors- A group of 1-2 birds will be displayed. Each participant will be given 2 minutes and 30 seconds to view the birds. The birds cannot be handled or taken from the cage, a judging stick can be used to move the birds in the cages. At the conclusion of the 2 ½ minutes the participant will be ask to identify which bird is the best representative of its breed and tell why.= 30%
